What to expect at my first appointment?

Your initial consultation will include a full case history, followed by a thorough orthopaedic and neurological examination to determine the cause of your complaint. X-rays or scans may be needed to further investigate some complaints. Your chiropractor will discuss the findings of these examinations and suggest treatment options with you. Treatment usually consists of joint adjustments/manipulation, soft tissue therapy and rehabilitation exercises and stretches. If you have any specific treatment preferences, feel free to discuss this with your chiropractor on the initial consultation.

What do I need to bring?

Be prepared to provide your previous medical or surgical history. If you have them and if they are relevant bring scan/MRI reports, and list of medication. You may wish to bring shorts and t-shirt.

How many visits will I need?

The number of treatments will vary depending on the problem and individual. After a thorough assessment, we will discuss treatment options and the likely prognosis with you.

What should I wear to my appointment?

We do provide gowns at the clinic, but generally comfortable clothing that you can move around in easily will be adequate.

Do I have to be referred by a doctor?

No referral is needed. In some cases your GP may provide you with a referral under a Medicare Care Plan. This will entitle you to up to 5 bulk-billed visits to registered allied health professionals per calendar year. Be sure to have your referral with you on your first appointment so that we can bulk-bill you.

This is a question often asked, and sometimes difficult to answer. Your chiropractor will be able to give you an estimate based on national averages, but it ultimately comes down to several factors. These include: age, level of fitness, how long you have had the problem, working conditions, posture, underlying abnormalities, how regular you receive treatment and whether you do the stretches and exercises as recommended. Generally, best results are achieved by sticking to the exercises and keeping your clinic appointments as recommended by the chiropractor. It is common to have more frequent appointments in the beginning, and then as you improve, less frequent appointments.

Generally imaging is not initially required, however this is dependant on examination findings at your first appointment. If we think x-rays or scans are needed, we will discuss this with you in detail.

We can provide treatment to children from the age of 4 for postural and musculoskeletal complaints. Prior to this age, we advise you to first follow-up with your family doctor. Non-musculoskeletal complaints are not treated at this clinic (eg. bed-wetting, colic, developmental/behavioural issues)

Yes. We have HICAPS onsite so you only pay the gap. Check your policy details prior to your appointment to see what your health insurer covers you for.

Yes. In order to be bulk-billed, you will need to have a care plan from your GP, which allows up to (5) medicare-covered visits per calendar year. Your GP will be able to determine your eligibility for a care plan.

You can call use at the clinic, and we will be happy to cancel or reschedule appointments for you. We often have patients waiting for appointment availability, so please give us plenty of notice if rescheduling.
